Jumping the Olympic Hurdle

Gallagher Basset has been reviewing potential impacts arising out of the forthcoming Olympic and Paralympic games. The Games will be held primarily in London but there are events taking place across the country. Within London serious disruption to travel is predicted, particularly around the Olympic Park in Stratford and the routes leading to this and other venues. Full details of planned disruptions, projected travel times, road closures etc are available on the Transport for London website www.tfl.gov.uk.

The dates are:-

Olympic Games 27th July to 12th August 2012

Paralympic Games 29th August to 9th September 2012

During these dates:

- We do not anticipate holding any meetings in our London offices unless absolutely necessary

- We are arranging staggered working hours for staff but our office will be fully open and operational at all times

Due to the increased number of visitors expected there could be the potential for increased claims incidents. We do not anticipate that the growth of numbers will be sufficiently significant to put undue pressure on our claims teams, but should there be an unexpected spike, then we have contingency plans in place to provide additional support from our branch network outside of London.

To help ourselves and clients analyse the impact of the Games on claims experiences we will be adding an "Olympic" code. This will enable any claim specifically relating to the Olympics to be easily identified - this code would be added to any claim where there is a direct link to the Olympics .

Please contact your account manager if you have any specific concerns or if you require GB to take any specific actions in respect of Olympic claims.

If you need any help with contingency planning for this event please contact our Risk Control team who will be happy to assist.

Finally, if you are implementing any special measures within your own organisation (e.g restricted or extended hours etc) please let us know so that we can inform our claims teams.
